How should the injection mold material be selected?
The injection molding tool consists of forces and heat during operation under conditions different from those of a cold mold. The forces received are the pressure during clamping, the pressure of the melt inside the cavity and the tension when the mold is opened! The pressure of the melt is the main factor. Injection molding tools usually operate at a certain temperature, which fluctuates. In addition, injection molds are subject to plastic friction and corrosive gases during operation. The working conditions of injection molds are very harsh. In order to ensure the service life of the mold, the injection mold materials, especially the molded parts materials, must meet certain requirements.
First,Excellent machinability: easy to cut and processed to obtain high precision steel. Medium carbon and medium carbon alloy steels are the most commonly used, which is especially important for large molds. Injection mold makers need EDM hardened steel layers for parts that also need to be very thin.
Second: excellent polishing properties: the working surfaces of molded parts need to be polished to a mirror finish, Ra<0.05um, and hardness over 40HRC, but hard surfaces make polishing difficult. The microstructure of the steel should be uniform and dense, with few impurities and no defects or pinpoints!
Third: good abrasion resistance and fatigue resistance: not only can be cleaned by high-pressure plastic melt clearing, but also by alternating hot and cold temperature stress cleaning air conditioning skeleton mold. Selected steel should be able to reduce the number of injection mold polishing, long time to maintain the size and accuracy of the cavity, to meet the requirements of the service life of mass production. Fiber reinforced plastic injection molding more than 30,000 times is particularly important.
Fourth: corrosion resistance: for certain plastic varieties, such as PVC and flame retardant plastics, must consider corrosion-resistant steel.
